Out of service

If you found yourself, at least once, wishing that your eyes were making a trick after seeing the out of service sign on a lift, in one of the stations of the Brussels’ underground, this might help a little bit.

Moving around Brussels is an adventure for some of us. And as many stations don’t have elevators, the out of service sign is not your friend at all. The last time I came across this sign was yesterday. Gosh! Not only one time but three times. And yesterday was not the right day for this enemy (the sign) to visit me, because I was not ready for this. Well, enemies don’t care, right? I guess, that is the reason why they have this tittle.

Let me explain… I am lucky to have my important activities around the only line which frequently has the most modern trains, which allows me to travel by myself without assistance. But as I mentioned, all the stations don’t have lifts. Therefore, when you arrive at a station and you find yourself in front of the sign, when work brought you in the position to be short of time to arrive at your next appointment, you have to be smart right away to find a solution, otherwise, you will be late. It makes me sick to be late. Anyway, long story short, yesterday was a day full of surprises. As I already met two times the enemy, I wasn’t expecting a third time and that made me send a message to the public transport service to ask for a solution ( https://twitter.com/WheelchairInTW/status/1166043571826417664 ).

@STIBMIVB Hi there, is that possible to have the information about the lifts that are out of service in advance? I had the bad surprise of 3 of them. On line 1 only. That would really be helpful. I am not the only one in the situation. Gare-Centrale #Pleasedosomething

@WheelchairInTW Hello! Sorry for the inconvenience 😞We do understand the need for real time information re status of our elevators. We are working on integrating this in our app in a following update. In the meantime you can find status updates on our website here: bit.ly/2DEhOvt

@STIBMIVB Hello, yes real-time information would be great, two of the three lifts I was referring to are not mentioned on the website. Thank you for doing your best and participating in making Brussels more inclusive.

Well, let’s hope for more improvement. For now, it is a good start. If in three years we still there… hm… let’s hope for the bright side and use this website.

Have a nice day and take care of your loved ones,

Petit Cyborg
